Orion has been able to restore power to 248 customers in Diamond Harbour and surrounding areas.

Orion has been unable to make contact with around 65 customers not at their properties when crews called. Orion asks any property owners still without power to call its contact centre as soon as possible to arrange a time they can be present at the property for the check to be completed.

Orion General Manager of Infrastructure, Steve Macdonald, says they are keen to get everyone back on as quickly as possible.

“We have more than 10 operators in the area, and they are ready to check the connections to get people back on. Some home owners may be out of town, may not have retrieved our messages or are not aware of the situation.

“If people haven’t spoken with us yet, we ask them to please call our contact centre on 0800 363 9898 as soon as possible.”

Orion’s community briefings in Port Levy, Purau and Diamond Harbour this morning were well attended. In addition to seeking an update on Orion’s progress with power restoration, some sought advice on the process for insurance claims.

“We will respond quickly to any requests for information from insurance companies.

“We understand people want to get on with replacing some vital equipment that may have been damaged, and we’ll do what we can to speed that process up,” said Macdonald.

“The community has been very understanding, and we are very grateful for their patience during what has been an extended period without power for so many.”

Customers are advised to email Orion on [email protected] for insurance company enquiries, check Orion’s website for updates, or call its Contact Centre on 0800 363 9898.
