Orion highest performing major electricity lines business – asset management planning

12 October 2007

Orion New Zealand Limited’s asset management plan has once again been rated as one of the very best in the country. For the second year in a row, a Commerce Commission report has ranked Orion as the highest performing major electricity lines business in terms of its asset management planning.

“Our asset management plan is central to our operations – it details how we manage and plan the future of our electricity network to meet the needs of our community”, said Orion CEO, Roger Sutton. “We are proud of our ranking as one of the most reliable and efficient electricity networks in the country – our focus on effective planning helps us to maintain this position.”

The Commission’s report was prepared by Parsons Brinkerhoff Associates (PBA). In its report on Orion’s asset management plan, PBA noted Orion’s comprehensive lifecycle asset management planning and risk management.

Background

Electricity lines businesses are required to publish an asset management plan each year, which details the asset replacement, reinforcement and maintenance strategies of the lines business, usually over a 10 year period. The plan also gives customers, owners and stakeholders other information about existing and planned service levels and the future operation of the electricity distribution network.
