Temporary supply connections

Temporary supply connections give builders and other tradespeople access to electricity supply at a worksite where there is no existing connection to our network.

You, or your electrical contractor, will need to contact your electricity retailer if you would like to hire a yellow temporary supply boundary box or install an additional temporary supply in the Orion network area.

How to apply for a temporary connection

Recent changes to the Orion temporary supply connections process mean that you, your builder or your electrical contractor now need to contact your electricity retailer to apply for a temporary connection.

Meridian Energy and Contact Energy are the first retailers to provide the temporary supply connection service in the Orion network area.  These retailers are now providing this service in addition to other retail packages and options they offer.

We expect other retailers to come on board and offer this service directly to their customers in due course.
