High winds mean some customers without power overnight

18 July 2022 at 6:31 pm

High winds travelling at more than 100km per hour today caused more than 2,000 of Orion’s customers in rural Central Canterbury to lose power.

Orion was able to restore power to more than 1,400 customers by nightfall.

As the light has faded, and with winds still around 80 to 100km per hour, 611 customers remain without power as conditions make it unsafe for Orion crews to continue to their work.

Orion crews will resume restoring power to customers at first light tomorrow morning.

For up to date information, customers can check Orion’s website outages page for details including projected restoration times, or call Orion’s 24/7 Customer Support team on 0800 363 9898.
