Update from Transpower 9.30am - the grid emergency has ended
Update the grid emergency was due to insufficient power generation due to a mechanical fault and a sudden drop in wind generation.

There has been unprecedented demand on the national electricity network this morning and Transpower has advised us there is the possibility of them initiating emergency provisions to reduce overall consumption, and protect the network.
This may involve cutting the power to a significant number of customers right across the country.
These power cuts could last for as long as two hours during this morning’s peak time, to around 9am.
