200 homes in Diamond Harbour, Purau and Port Levy now have their power back on after a more than two a day outage as a result of a tree falling across lines in Western Valley Road on Thursday.

113 customers will remain without power over night. Orion has mobilised more than 25 operators who will recommence their work early on Sunday morning to restore power to as many as possible of the remaining customers.

Orion has multiple crews working through Saturday and Sunday to restore power to customers in Diamond Harbour and surrounding areas.

From first light this morning Orion mobilised more than 25 operators to work door to door, checking each customer’s connection, and progressively livening individual premises as they are satisfied it is safe to do so.

As at 10am this morning 80 customers had their power restored, and many more of the remaining 233 are expected to have their power back on today.

Orion General Manager of Infrastructure, Steve Macdonald, says they are working hard to safely restore services as quickly as possible.

“It’s complex situation where we need to assess each customer’s situation individually.

“We’ve brought in crews from neighbouring lines companies to help our crews and we’ve had tremendous support from contractors in the wider industry who have joined us. It’s all hands on deck.

“The community has been very understanding, and we are very grateful for their patience.

“We need homeowners to be on site when we come to check their premises, so if people haven’t made arrangements with us, they should call our contact centre so our crews can organise to meet them at their home.”

Customers are advised to check Orion’s website for updates, or call its Contact Centre on 0800 363 9898.
