Orion is working to fix the power outage which is affecting 1,604 customers in Lyttelton.
CEO Rob Jamieson says "Orion’s operators and contractors are on site and they are working hard to restore power as quickly as possible."
“Getting the power back on to businesses and residents in the Lyttelton area in a safe and timely manner is our key priority.”
The power outage occurred at 3.18 am in the overhead lines servicing the Lyttelton region.
At present power is off in Cass Bay, Corsair Bay, Governors Bay, Lyttelton, Pigeon Bay and Rapaki.
Given the location of the fault on the hills above Lyttelton we may need to carry out temporary repairs, with a more permanent fix in the coming days. Given the terrain, we estimate power could be out until 8.00 pm tonight.
We will continue to update the outage page on our website as more information comes to hand.
