The longest single length 66kV cable pull in Orion’s history was achieved in 2017, in Rolleston. 

A new 1.1km, 630mm2 cable was pulled along Weedons Road to Larcomb Zone Substation, in Rolleston. At 1100 metres, that's 11 times the length of a rugby field.

It was the first of three cables to be pulled along that stretch of road, with each cable drum weighing 15 tonnes. That's equivalent to the weight of 20 Freisan cows or 10 cars. 

The work was part of the NZ Transport Agency’s Southern Motorway project.
