Update: 2pm

Orion has multiple crews working today and over the weekend to restore power to customers in Diamond Harbour and surrounding areas.

Around 50 customers are expected to have their power back on by 5pm today, and most of the remaining 263 customers are expected to have their power restored progressively over the weekend.

Rob Jamieson, Orion CEO says, “We are working door to door, checking each customer’s connection as quickly as possible, and livening individual premises as we are satisfied it is safe to do so.

“It is a big job, and we’ve brought in extra crews today and over the weekend to get things back on for people as quickly as we can.

“Customers will need to be prepared for the power to be out over the weekend.

“We’ll work hard today and over the weekend, and keep people informed as things progress.

“We apologise for the inconvenience to our customers and thank them for their patience,” said Jamieson.

Customers are advised to check Orion’s website for updates, or call its Contact Centre on 0800 363 9898.

Orion has more than 25 operators working hard to restore power to 313 customers in Diamond Harbour and surrounding areas.

Crews have repaired the damage to the network caused by the tree falling across lines in Western Valley Road and door to door checks of each household are continuing today and over the weekend.

The tree falling on Orion’s lines may have caused a surge of power that could have resulted in damage to customers’ switchboards.

To ensure public safety Orion crews are calling on each household to check the power service. The home owners need to be present when Orion crews are doing the checks.

Checks of each of the 313 possibly impacted premises will need to be satisfactorily completed before power can be safely turned back on progressively to individual customers.

Orion has made contact with more than 250 customers and urges those who have not yet spoken with them to call its Contact Centre on 0800 363 9898.

Rob Jamieson, Orion CEO says, “It will take us some time to get around to everyone but the safety of the public is paramount.

“We will be checking each household as quickly as possible today, and livening individual premises as we are satisfied it is safe to do so.
