Distributed generation connections with the ability to generate and export greater than 1MW of energy are likely to have significant impacts on our network, and potentially the national grid too.

So we all understand the impact of connecting large scale generation to our network, we would like to hear from you early in your planning process. This helps us to understand what your intentions are and how we can help you connect in the most efficient way.

Applying

Step 1 - apply/enquire online

You will need to complete and submit the online enquiry over 1MW form, completing all the detailed information requested in the form. There is no charge at this stage.

Step 2 - work with us

Our Connections team will be in touch to discuss your over 1MW generation request.

We may require you to complete further documentation and if you wish to proceed you will be required to pay an initial pre-application fee. Your application will not be available for processing until payment of the initial pre-application fee has been successfully received.

Following this, our team will reach out to organise a pre-application meeting. This helps to ensure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to ensure you are aware of any obligations to Orion or Transpower related to your connection.

Obligations to Orion will include any systems studies that are required as part of your connection or any information we require that hasn’t been provided related to the connection location or equipment.

For any obligations to Transpower, we will work with you to understand and meet these requirements. However, you will be responsible for procuring and providing any information required to assist in this process.

Following the pre-application meeting, if you wish to proceed, you will have a single point of contact within the connections team to ensure your application is progressing. You will also be required to pay the full application fee (less the paid pre-application fee). Fees available from our Orion associated charges schedule
