Pricing guides and information

Our pricing

Electricity distribution networks are expensive to develop and maintain so it makes sense for one provider to manage a network in each area. Because you cannot choose between network providers, our prices are controlled by the Commerce Commission, under the Commerce Act.

The Commission determines price targets for Orion based on its view of what is in the best long-term interest of electricity consumers in our region.

We also publish more detailed price schedules that outline our current prices, and documents that explain how we set and apply our pricing.

We update our prices each year with new prices applying from 1 April. The below documents have details of our latest updates:

Connections and pioneer

Our connection pricing methodology has been updated at 4 May by a revision of the standing reconciliations in Appendix B. It is still effective 1 April 2026. This follows a correction in the model that provides the standing reconciliation. The correction relates to the incremental revenue component of the reconciliation but does not change the resultant posted charge that applies to customers as per the connection charges and fees schedule from 1 April 2026.
