What is the Flexibility Opportunities Viewer?
The Flexibility Opportunities Viewer is a map showing locations on our network where flexibility services could support us to defer or reduce network investment.
Flexibility is about smarter use of electricity. This means adjusting when and how power is used or stored so supply and demand stay balanced on the network. It reduces pressure during peak times, makes better use of renewable energy, and can delay the need for costly new infrastructure.
The map provides visibility of where flexibility could provide value to the network based on our investment planning processes described in our Asset Management Plan. These opportunities are subject to change and will be updated on an ongoing basis to reflect revised demand forecasts and network modelling.

By signposting potential and likely opportunities early we aim to support the development of the flexibility market and give service providers time to explore solutions and proactively prepare for future engagement.
As flexibility opportunities become more certain, the map will include tender information, including the specific flexibility services we are seeking, procurement timelines, and how to respond. As part of including flexibility in our network planning processes, we ensure the cost to customers remains at or below that of the equivalent network investment.
Flexibility is an increasingly important part of how we enable cost-effective electrification and support customer participation in the energy system.
