Generation application updates

CE Activator

We’ve made changes to generation applications to allow you to apply for export limit increases, as well as tidying up some existing fields and terminology.

We’ve also made sure we are clear about the information we need from you, this helps us process your application efficiently.

Below is a list of the changes we have made:

  • Added a new area type of Metro (an area within the central city 4 avenues).
  • For solar applications, we’ve changed the term arrays to panels.
  • Please note, we now ask that you clearly document the kw size of the panels in the Notes/Comments in the “General” section of the application.
  • For all applications over 15kW and under 1MW, we have made the protection settings mandatory as we need this information to enable us to approve your application.

There is no fee to apply to change your generation. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to keep us informed of any changes made onsite.

  • We have added a new field specifically for Request Export Limit changes. Please select “Yes” only if you are changing the export limit without making any equipment changes.
  • If you are applying to change your equipment and also requesting an increase to your export limit, please complete all details for the equipment that will be onsite once the changes are finished. Then, in the Notes/Comments section under General, include full details such as:
    • Number and size of panels on site before change and number and size of panels added.
    • If you are going to replace the inverter, put the details of the old inverter with make, model and size.
    • If you are replacing a battery, put the details of the old battery with make, model and kWh size.
    • If you are decommissioning any part of the installation, please note the make, model, size of the product and the date it was decommissioned.

Unfortunately, our system is not currently set up for you to apply for multiple inverters or batteries, so we ask that you put the information of any additional equipment into the Notes/Comments field in the general section of the application.

Export limit increase process

Your ability to export more than 5kWs per phase will be determined by a combination of factors, such as what your equipment is capable of and what our network studies show our network in your area is able to support. Once we have processed your application, we will inform you of what you can increase your export to. This will not always be the full 10kW per phase.

Once you have received written approval from Orion to increase your export limit, you can go ahead and make the changes. We require a photo showing the settings, set to the prescribed levels in your inverter within 10 days of the change being made.

This is our first step toward increasing export limits, and we will be continuing to refine and improve our approach over time. Please check our website regularly for updates.
